Out and About on the Station {July 2014}

July 29, 2014

Well it has been a while hasn’t it.  I feel like we haven’t chatted for ages.  What have you been up to in your part of the world?

It seems that Winter is the busiest time of year up here.  It is the time when most of the mustering gets done, long days and lots of hard work.  It is also the time when people come to visit, be it family or work.  We were lucky enough to have family visit us this July.  Mum and Dad (DD & Rexy) arrived in time for Clancy’s Birthday.  And thank god they did….  I have waited so long for a housekeeper and handy man and finally someone heard my prayers and sent DD & Rexy.   So my housekeeper – DD – settled straight into her role and immediately formed a strong friendship with my broom, washing machine and cleaning products!  My floor has never been so clean and as for the washing, I don’t think I did any for 3 weeks!  My Uncle & Aunt also arrived not long after Mum and Dad and Uncle Terry and Dad put together a mountain of flat packed office furniture for me and helped transform my office from chaos to super organised!

It is so great having family to visit and it is amazing what you can get done with a few extra hands on board.  Not to mention someone to drink wine with of an afternoon.

The kids were excited to build a camp fire and Uncle Terry did a couple of camp oven dinners for us.

Another great thing about having visitors is that I actually somehow manage to get out and about….beyond the station compound, it is pretty exciting for me as well as them.

We also celebrated Mr Chardy’s Birthday while our visitors were here.  I am sure he won’t be happy that he has gone viral with this picture….but here he is.  Everyone s wearing their usual attire, Harry with no shirt on, Clancy in his PJ’s, Tom showered and dressed and of course Mr Chardy still has his dirty work clothes on….I love it when he makes such an effort for a special occasion.

Birthday M

After lots of laughs with our family visiting it was sad to wave goodbye to them.  What a rude shock today has been, I have had to fend for myself.  I am determined not to let DD’s hard work go to waste, so the washing was on the line nice and early and is already off and folded.  Floor is swept (this is very unlike me….what has she done to me) and the beds are all made.  Bathroom tidy and all is in order.  The office is even still tidy.  I wonder how long it will last.

I am excited to say that the children, Governess and I are off to town tomorrow for a School of the Air Group Day on Thursday.  You have no idea how excited I am about this…..you see, I haven’t been to town for 2 MONTHS!  2 Months people, do you hear me?  I am beside myself and can’t wait for a haircut and some town time.

Well that is all for now.  I Hope you are all well.

    I was just thinking the other day that I hadn’t seen a post from you in a while. So lovely to hear from you again. It’s always lovely to have family come stay but I imagine even more so for you in your remote part of the world. Always love looking at your photos. xx

    Isn’t it great when Mums come to visit? When my dear MIL visits ALL the ironing is done and I love it. I have just been in the US and did a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon (totally awesome, words and photos cannot possibly do it justice). Out of 7 passengers I was the only one to have previously ridden in a helicopter. Totally different ride to a mustering helicopter which was my only previous chopper experience. This chopper had leather seats and air conditioning!
