If you are anything like me you are always on the lookout for an interesting new Podcast. I am so up to date with all of my favourite Podcasts which means I am always on the hunt for a new one. Today I would like to share with you an interview I listened to the other day. It was from one of my favourite Podcasts – Conversations with Richard Fidler. This man has incredible interviewing skills, I think he could even make me sound interesting. He is amazing. You could click on any of his interviews, no matter who they are and if you know them or not, and find them interesting.
My recommendation today is the interview he did with Toni Tapp Coutts on 24 March 2016…

Toni has just released her memoir…
The back of the book reads…
Toni Tapp Coutts grew up on the massive Killarney Station in the Northern Territory. Her father, Bill Tapp, was living out his dream to be a cattle king. Her mother, June Tapp would have nine more children after Toni. While Bill Tapp ran the cattle June ran the Killarney community.
Toni’s is a fascinating story of a childhood spent stalking goannas, sleeping in a swag under the stars or being on the back of a horse, guarding the cattle. It’s about people from different worlds who came together in an ancient land, each trying to do their best. It’s about what happens when big dreams come true and the price that gets paid for them.
A Sunburnt Childhood is a memoir as vivid as the land it depicts, full of colour, characters and contradictions. If you loved the stories of Sarah Henderson and Sheryl McCorry, you will never forget Toni, her family, Killarney Station and the people who made it their home.
I bought this book after listening to her wonderful interview with Richard Fidler. What a fascinating life she has led. I haven’t read it yet but I will be sure to let you know once I have.
If you are sitting there wondering “what the hell is a Podcast”… then let me fill you in… A Podcast is a bit like listening to a radio interview. Well in this case it is a radio interview. Conversations with Richard Fidler is on ABC radio each morning, he interviews a different person each day. They have turned it into a Podcast which just means you can listen to it when ever you like from where ever you like no matter what. All you need is internet to download it. Once it is downloaded you can listen to it anywhere, even if you don’t have phone service or internet connection: i.e.: on the long lonely roads I travel out here at BumTruck Nowhere.
I listen to Podcasts from my iPhone. Usually the Podcast app will be on the phone when you get it, just search your phone for “Podcast” and you should find it…. the icon on Apple iPhones looks like this…
If you are using an adroid device then I believe the icon you will be looking for looks like this and is called Stitcher (click on this link to go through to the Stitcher website, where you can then download the app for your Android) …
Now, I am by no means an expert when it comes to Androids, in fact I have no idea about them, so I really do hope this information helps you, I am sure if you click on the Stitcher link above it will provide you with the correct information.
I listen to podcasts on the long trips I do in the car and when I am cooking or cleaning. They really do make cleaning enjoyable.
Have you read A Sunburnt Childhood?
Did you hear her interview on Conversations?
I enjoyed Richards’ work when he was with the Doug Anthony Allstars. Sounds like a fascinating book and podcast, I’m going to have to look into them.
Thanks Chards
Get onto it Mish, I am sure you won’t be disappointed. Richard is amazing isn’t he. 🙂
Thank you Miss Chardy. Was a great doing the interview with Richard Fidler, just 2 days after my book came out. Has been a roller coaster of fun!
No worries Toni. Is he just as great in real life as what he seems to be on the radio? Can’t wait to read the book. I am just finishing Jessica Rowe’s book. I bet it has been a roller coaster of fun, well done!!! 🙂
Hi Chards, got to listen to the actual interview between Toni and Richard, but will still down load when in civilisation. Impossible on our internet to down
Old the podcasts. Richard helps me on my 7 hour drives to town. Just love Richard
Hello there Narelle of the Never Never, so great to hear from you!!! Isn’t Richard just the best, too many great interviews to even mention. Have you listened to his interview with Leila Abukar (Somali born refugee)? I have heard him speak to her twice now, she is amazing. The last one was on 17th March, I am sure you would have listened to it.
I really enjoy the Podcast called Strangers. Initially it took me a while to warm to the voice – you are continually debating if it is a man or a woman (o rmaybe that is just me) but the stories are good.
Thanks Ellie… I am off to check it out right this minute.
Yes I bought the book after listening to the podcast and have just finished it! I’ve felt like I’ve been in the outback for the past week, what an amazing story and childhood. Love your podcast recommendations too Miss Chardy!
Hi Vicki, thanks so much for letting us know. I am looking forward to reading it. Do you have any Podcast recommendations for us?
Miss Chardy – I have been busy with work hence the late comment, but here I am Thursday and finally reading your blog.
OMGOODNESS how freakin amazing is Richard Fidler. I have only recently like the past 2 weeks begun listening to him – and I cant get enough. He has SUCH amazing interviewing skills and his questions! I am like how did you even think that type of question.
I have learnt SO many things from Richard in this time, things from INXS starting, to Toni, to the MARS1 adventure and Andrew and his Dessert quests – My mind has been opened to a world I didnt even know about.
So yes I am BINGE listening.
I think that is Richard’s talent is taking someone’s story and making you feel a part of it – so much, that you feel like you are there with the person in the scene and story.
SO yes I have a little crush on Richard.
Who else do you listen too?
Oh yes yes yes…. he is all that and a bit isn’t he Carmel. You nailed it. My other favourite podcasts are: Two Fat Expats, Over the Back Fence, Death Sex and Money, Criminal, Serial – season 1, Mamamia Outloud, This Glorious Mess & I don’t know how she does it. I am totally up to date with all of these and wait weekly for the next one to drop. Happy listening!!!!
