Clancy’s 5th Birthday

July 11, 2016

Well as you could probably imagine, Clancy’s Birthday was a 5 star affair.  All the bell’s and whistles that you would expect from a 5 year old’s party… you know just the usual suspects: a layered bakery style cake worth hundred of dollars, a party that took weeks to organise with all the A-Listers invited, a photographer, pinterest worthy decorations and don’t even get me started on the professional Lolly Bags because you will be so jealous it won’t even be funny.

Ha ha ha ha, oh dear, I nearly had you going didn’t I.  Ok, probably not, you know me too well don’t you??!!!!  So you want to know what really went down in Clancy Town?  Here it is…

For starters I would have liked to see a little more enthusiasm from the 5 year old when he feasted his little peepers on this present…Clancy 5 2

I was expecting there to be wet pants and snot flying out of his nose due to excitement levels but it was all a little underwhelming to tell you the truth.  Then came the “where are all of my other presents” and I was like …… “Ummm, that’s it buddy…. “.  I guess the poor little bugger was waiting for me to pull out the remote control truck that he really wanted from the Camooweal Roadhouse but they don’t offer online shopping so that was just out of the question.

I am pretty sure he was just trying to contain his excitement in this photo…

I was going to get him more and then I thought… no – we are breeding a generation of greedy little children who just want want want.  So I pulled up.  (Because god knows I was never like that when I was a kid…. cough cough).  That Lego was pretty expensive can I just say and really, he is 5 for goodness sake.  I guess I could have at least wrapped up a chuppa chup and a bag of lollies.  I really am quite bad at Birthday’s aren’t I.

Anyway, he got over himself and we did find a couple more little presents for him.  He had fun putting together the Lego with his brothers.

I did let him have cinnamon sugar on toast as a treat and even let him have some snakes at breakfast time.  I know – talk about spoilt.

We then went for a picnic lunch.  We headed out to some caves that the boys haven’t really seen before and had a hunt around out there.  Bit of hiking if you will.

When we got home he was busting to have his cake so we rounded up Mr Chardy, lit some sparklers and sang Happy Birthday.  Got a family selfie for the album and bam – he got his cake. Clancy 5 5Oh and can we just mention that number 5 cake… I mean just look at it.  You’re jealous aren’t you.  I let him decorate it, he was so excited I didn’t have the heart to go all Women’s Weekly Cookbook control freak on him.  I did have to walk away and just let him do it.  But he had a lovely time and was proud as punch with his masterpiece.  Clancy 5 6For dinner we lit the campfire, cooked some sausages and also grabbed some take-away chips from the cafe station kitchen.  The boys had a lovely time poking the fire and cooking sausages.

They then watched and movie and Clancy must have been so buggered, from his boutique style party, that he fell asleep on the lounge.

So beat that my fine friends.  Bet you can’t.  What do you have that tops that?  Perhaps you would like to see me a dud gift and raise me with a Pinterest-esque cake.  Lets see what you’ve got.

As they would say on This Glorious Mess…. Did I “nail or fail” the kids Birthday Party?

Looks like they had a few treats up on those rocks and caves! Sounds like a perfect little day if you ask me. I have been roped into having a party for my son’s 5th, as he’s never had one before and I promised! Don’t worry I won’t go too OTT xx

That cake looks amazing to me!!! Well done, you two! The Little Mister is getting a similar box of Lego for his 5th birthday (not until November). Mr Unprepared got it in a toy sale for just $20! Bargain!
I think Pinterest worthy parties are overrated, just quietly. Looks like you spent some quality time – how cool 🙂

Two of my three daughters had birthdays recently (7 and 10) and I perhaps did go slightly overboard on the presents. I get their sisters to give each other a present too, so there are a few to open on the day. There are always a few clothes and books plus something special from mum and dad. I am extremely stingy at other times so I make up for it on their birthdays! But aside from the present underwhelm, Clancy’s day looked like a perfect 5 year old day – trip to caves, lollies and decorating his own cake, I’m sure he will have very happy memories!

For my sons 5th birthday (19 yrs ago) all he got was a family dinner and a rocket cake with crepe paper flames and sparklers for the real fire! Trust me when I tell you that it most definitely was not Pinterest worthy. You did good Chards 🙂
