New York City: The hard thud back to reality

June 13, 2018

Hello my friends.  Gosh, I really did just fall off the face of the online world after returning from NYC, didn’t I?!  Perhaps I have had post NYC depression.  But I am here and I am still with you, it has been a busy couple of weeks slotting back into station life.  A hard thud back to reality if you will.  The holiday is always well and truly over once you hit Mt Isa.  Where you have to race around and collect this that and the other and stock up on stores etc.  Then fit them all on board and drive the bloody long drive home.

When I returned back to Australia I had a lovely few days in Brisbane.  I got to take my oldest boy – Tom – out of boarding school for a few days and spend some time with him, which was so lovely.  We stayed with our gorgeous friends Edwina & Rob and I also got to see my beautiful friend Di.  I even managed to squeeze in an impromptu lunch with two of my favourite blogging friends – Nikki from Styling You and Kirsten from Kirsten and Co.  It was a wonderful few days in Brisbane.

But here I am back home now.  It hasn’t been that bad.  I did arrive home to a bachelor pad but I just sucked it up because my lovely husband had been here for all of that time with Harry and Clancy.  If it wasn’t for his encouragement to go on this trip and “just do it” I would never have gone, so I think myself very lucky for that support.  He was the one who told me I should go and enjoy myself overseas if that was what I wanted to do and I should do it now rather than later because, well, you never really do know what is around the corner do you.

Bec and I had such a fabulous trip.  I couldn’t have asked for a better travel buddy.  Neither of us had ever left the country before so we were both clueless together and it was fun figuring things out.  Thank god I had Bec because my bearings were really off.  Right up until the last day I still had no idea which way to go, I was all back to front and upside down.  Even my phone and google maps had no idea where we were.  I would go one way thinking we were heading Up Town, but we were actually going Down Town.

I have such fond memories from our holiday and I really don’t think we could have squeezed much more in, we really did do quite a bit.  And it was so lovely to go back to our gorgeous hotel each afternoon – the Hotel Elysee – to our made up room and then complimentary wine and cheese down in the club room, it just topped off each day.  We would then either go to a show or head out for dinner.  Because time means nothing in NYC.

Now, what I am going to do is a series of New York City blog posts.  I want to have the memories here on the blog and I would like to share them with anyone thinking of going to New York.  I relied heavily on blog posts for our trip and just love reading about other peoples adventures, so I hope you enjoy them too.

Next week I am off to help Mrs Savvy B with one of her hikes.  Did you know she has started her own business?  It is called Trekwest – Tailored Hiking Tours and she has done an amazing job starting this business.  Remember a couple of years ago when we decided to go hiking together on her station?  If you missed it, you can read about it here.  It was so much fun and I have the fondest memories of our few days hiking.  So many laughs and such gorgeous scenery.

Anyway, Mrs Savvy B decided maybe she could take groups hiking and turn it into a business.  So she spent the next year chipping away and figuring things out and last year she led her first hike.  I am so proud of her and what she has achieved and I am so excited that she has asked me to help with one of her tours.  I don’t think I will really be hiking – more the camp bitch.  I will be Tilly’s offsider (her main helper and partner in crime).  We will drive the vehicles and take all the gear from camp to camp and set up each day and sort out meals etc… well who the hell knows really.  I will do what ever she needs me to do and I can’t wait.  I also can’t wait to report back to you guys and share this experience.  I know many of you are also keen hikers and I am sure you would love to go hiking with Mrs Savvy B – well actually her name is Shelly, so watch this space.

So I thought I had best just check in briefly with you and let you know that I am still here and I did in fact return home from NYC.  I thought I was going to be able to blog each day over there but that didn’t really happen, the internet was a little slow in the hotel so I gave up in the end.

How have you all been anyway?  Did you follow along with our adventure on Facebook?  If you missed it we did quite a few Facebook live videos direct from New York each day, you can head to the Facebook page to find them – here.

Have a great day, you good people.

Sounds like you had a great time in NYC. Have just ‘liked’ Shellys Trekwest facebook page, looks like a wonderful adventure. You have done so well with building your blog, perhaps there is a business opp there for you as well.

Hi Judy, gosh it was a fun trip. Thanks so much for liking Shelly’s FB page! Isn’t it wonderful. She has done such a great job. I really would like to turn my blog into a business… probably have to start by getting a bit regular with blog posts, ha ha ha. I would love to help people with an actual business… perhaps through conferences and events. Thanks for your kind words Judy.

What a fun and crazy ride! You two had a ball and I loved travelling vicariously with you! It’s so great that you got to experience NY with someone who really appreciated it, I had two girlfriends visit us in Sydney who are the best travel buddies. Neither of their husbands are keen to travel so the ladies vacation together instead! FYI, the best cure for post holiday blues is to book another trip, stat!
