All the things – Weather Update, Fighting Kids & Accommodation in Winton

January 23, 2020

Hi There. How are you? We are still waiting for rain. I see there has been some lovely rainfalls around the traps and I really hope you have managed to get some. I think today might be our day – but then I am a glass half full kind of girl when it comes to the weather – surely it is going to rain on us today!!! It has been trying to, the sky looks promising but it has just been pathetic little sprinkles… so today is our day I reckon.

If not today then it will definitely come in on Sunday because on Monday I am supposed to drive the boys into town to put them on the plane back to boarding school AND I have a much needed hair appointment booked (with my dark roots I currently look like a ten dollar hooker) – of course it will rain!

How are the holidays treating you? I’m not going to lie – this Mumma has lost her shit once or twice (maybe thrice or even more) at her 3 fighting boys – oh the fighting. It is ok if there are just 2 of them in the house but when all 3 are together the shit hits the fan and I loose mine. Lets just say they are ready to go back to school (oh what a terrible Mum I am). ha ha ha.

Speaking of fighting kids, that reminds me of our 3 day road trip to Noosa in December.

I wanted to tell you all about the amazing accommodation I found in town – if you are ever travelling through Winton (in outback QLD) and need accommodation then look no further than Cottage on Cork. On our first day we drove from home to Winton so I googled “Accommodation Winton”. We have previously stayed at The North Gregory Hotel which was really nice so I just thought we would book in there again but then I stumbled across some houses on Booking.com – yes actual holiday houses in Winton, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Cottage On Cork has 4 houses available. On our way down we booked into Muddy Cottage which is a 2 bedroom fully self contained cottage that sleeps 5 – perfect. I think it was only about $169. It was absolutely perfect. All the houses have been renovated and refurbished by the owner – Lisa and they are just gorgeous. There was a bbq out on the patio so we cooked up some lamb ribs and kebabs and ate in. The boys even put some washing on. It was just so convenient and comfortable. The bed in Muddy Cottage was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in.

When we arrived the key was in the door and Lisa had already turned the air-conditioners on so the house was lovely and cool. There was even cereal, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, cookies and a lolly jar for the kids.

If you do want to eat out The Winton Hotel is about a 1 minute walk down the road or the main street isn’t very far away at all. In the morning when you are heading off pop in and see Angus and Amanda at The Winton Puma Roadhouse for a real coffee and delicious breakfast.

Now if we had have booked into a hotel we would have been paying over $200 and would have all be squashed into one room.

I could have booked Hatfield House which is a 3 bedroom cottage and still only about $195 but I decided to save 30 bucks and stick with Muddy Cottage. This is what Hatfield House looks like…

There are 2 more houses available. On the way home we stayed in Laffin Cottage – a 2 bedroom cute little cottage. It was also super comfy and just perfect for us and even cheaper than Muddy Cottage! Once again the key was in the door and Lisa had switched all the air-conditioners on for us.

The last cottage available is called Steadman Cottage which is a one bedroom affair suited to a single or couple.

Aren’t they fantastic!!!! So if you need accommodation in Winton give Lisa a call on 0409 916 634 or email her: cottageoncork@outlook.com

You know holiday house hunting is a sport I take very seriously so if you have any hot tips on accommodation I am sure we would all love to hear them. What is the best holiday accommodation you have stayed in and where is it? Tell us everything!

Now if you don’t mind I am off to pray for rain. Have a fabulous day my friends.
