Barkly Women’s Day – Out of Iso Luncheon 2020

July 8, 2020

What a fabulous day we had on Saturday down at The Barkly Homestead Roadhouse on Saturday for Barkly Women’s Day!

As soon as I heard NT was lifting the restrictions within the NT I couldn’t email Kate at the roadhouse quick enough to see when we could hold a ladies luncheon. I mean I had been in Iso for about 15 weeks and was desperate for a get together with the wonderful women of the Barkly Tableland so I figured I wouldn’t be the only one desperate to get out.

We had around 45 women come from nooks and unexplored crannies to enjoy a day of fun, laughter, espresso martini’s, bubble and a delicious lunch, oh and a spot of shopping.

It must be a sight to see for any poor person travelling through (not that there was many). A man said to the lady at the counter “I have been driving for hours and hours and haven’t seen a single house, where on earth have all of these women come from? ha ha ha ha. Everyone made such an effort and looked stunning.

Bec, Fran, Georgie & Bridgie even flew up from Mt Riddock Station and Delmore Downs – north west of Alice Springs. We love it when they come to party with us.

Of course there were light refreshments served on the private jet up and back.

The lovely Susan Stafford travelled all the way down from La Belle Station up near Darwin – just a 12 hour trip. She hates to miss out on a party. But there was a slight problem – she forgot her blood pressure medication and the closest town (Tennant Creek) was 211km away. But it was the Outback Plumber to the rescue. I keep telling you that this man is a laxative because he “makes shit happen” … so I called Stretch and he offered to go into the pharmacy in Tennant Creek, collect the medication and drive it out for Sue! I mean seriously, what a bloody legend. That man would give you the shirt off his own back and his last dollar if you needed it. Thanks Stretch. He enjoyed a few cold drinks with the ladies and received a very warm welcome and cheer as he walked in.

All in all it was such a fun weekend and I definitely got my fill of social interaction, I managed to jam 16 weeks of iso into 2 nights. What a fun bunch of women! Thanks to everyone who made the effort to come along.
