Best Garlic Bread Ever

October 25, 2020

Oh my goodness. You guys – this is seriously one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten. I have made it quite a few times now and holy moly it is to die for…

And the best part… it is so easy. I am not kidding you. It looks so fancy and complicated doesn’t it but I promise you, it is SO EASY!!! So let’s do this my friends… let’s get you making the best garlic bread, pull apart, twisty thing ever.

I make my dough in the bread maker but if you don’t have a bread maker you can do it by hand or use the dough attachment on your mix-master. You will just have to knead it and rest it, allowing it to rise and you might have to do that a couple of times. But I am going to teach you the way I do it – in my breadmaker and then the oven.

You need to put all of these ingredients into the breadmaker in the exact order they are listen and exact measurements…

1 1/4 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil (can use garlic infused olive oil if you have it)
2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons milk powder
2 1/2 teaspoons garlic steak seasoning (or normal salt)
3 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)
4 cups plain flour (I use superb bakers flour but plain is fine)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried rosemary (if you don’t have the garlic or rosemary powder it is no worries, you don’t have to add these)
1 tablespoon dry active yeast

Put breadmaker on “dough” cycle and press start. My machine takes 1.5 hours to do a dough cycle. I like to leave the dough in the machine for about another hour after it is done as I find it rises and becomes really light and fluffy.

Empty dough onto a clean and floured surface.

We need to roll it out into a long rectangle – around 40 – 50cm long and about 30cm wide.

Ok now it is time to smother it in all of the garlic, buttery goodness. I mix some softened butter with garlic steak seasoning. I use the Lesnie’s Garlic Steak Seasoning that we get from a butcher wholesaler…

But I reckon you could just use this stuff from Woolies, probably exactly the same…

Basically you are just after a yummy garlic butter to smear on your dough, it doesn’t matter what you use – just something that is going to make it super yummy. You could use minced garlic out of a jar, anything!!! I like this seasoning as it is salty too.

You could also sprinkle on some cheese and anything else really that your heart desires. Ok, now we are going to roll it up along the longest side…

Now we are going to cut that long roll all the way down the middle, like this…

This is where the fancy looking magic happens. You are going to squeeze the 2 pieces together at the top and then twist both lengths like this…

So easy isn’t it. Now you need to form it into an S shape…

How fancy does that look!!!! It looks like you have spent hours prepping this little bad boy. Ok, now it is into a 200 deg C oven for 20 minutes.

You can serve as is or brush some melted butter on top. I have discovered that this is great as a kind of “pull-apart”, just peel back the layers. Frank – one of our Ringers – also had a great suggestion, he reckons it would be great with a dip of some sort and I totally agree. Game changer. Look out!!!

YUM YUM YUM!!! Let me know how you go. Tag your pics on facebook #cookingwithchards so we can see your masterpieces. Now my friends, go forth and bake all of the bread!!!

Oh and the best thing… you could add any topping that you like: pizza, chicken/cheese/mayo it doesn’t just have to be garlic bread you are in charge here… the world is your oyster!
