Well here we are guys… I am tap tap tapping away live from Katherine this morning. So excited to be on our way to Kununurra.
You see my friend, Bab’s, asked me to be a guest speaker at the No Borders Rural Women’s Day over there. I didn’t take much convincing. I do love a road trip and when Mrs Savvy B said she would be my co-pilot I was quite beside myself. She also brought along Bec.
Bec is the cook over at Savvy B Central, her big spunk of a boyfriend, Lach, led her up there… he is the chopper pilot. We needed to think of a fun name for Bec so we came up with Goldie Lachs – what do you think. She does have the most divine hair I have ever seen.
We left Chardy Central at 6am yesterday. When we got to the bitumen we stopped for a cuppa and some breakfast on the side of the road. At one of those rest areas. You know the ones (well you probably don’t, because seriously – who uses them) – the cement tables that have bird shit shit splattered all over them. Yep that one. Anyway, we whipped the thermos out (no, seriously, we really did – who the hell are we?) and made a cuppa using the old old coffee bags Mrs Savvy B had left at my house yonks ago. As we sipped the coffee the girls turned their noses up and thought it tasted funny. I said “oh god, toughen up, the milk is only out of date by 3 months and the coffee was only “used by” last year, it’s fine!” ha ha ha. Anyway, I didn’t think it was too bad but they tossed theirs out.
While we were sitting at said crappy cement table I said that we are basically Grey Nomads, what – with our thermos and all. With that Goldie Lachs replied “no, Blonde Nomads…. no hang on Blomads!!!”
…. #blomadsontour ….
Genius!!! So that is what our tour will be known as from here on in.
Anyway, after 950km of travelling we arrived in Katherine yesterday afternoon. Enjoyed a lovely dinner and a few cheeky wines last night and we are nearly set to head off again today (well after they wait for me to type this blog post anyway).
So today is a very easy day. Only about 500km to Kununurra and we also gain one and a half hours because it is in Western Australia. I know right – we are going interstate, we are so bloody cosmopolitan it isn’t even funny.
Anyway, the Blomads are sitting reading their books so I am going to have to love you and leave you. See you on the flip side my friends. I will tell you all about the weekend when I get home next Tuesday.
You can follow along with our adventures on Instagram and Facebook. On Insta I am: misschardy8. We would love to have you along for the ride.
Safe travels love. xx
Enjoy!! A girly road trip sounds so fun!
Nothing better Kez, it was so much fun.
Old milk and old coffee … seems nothing wrong there, catering at its finest. I know exactly the kind of stops you are talking about. I’ve been know to use them on the way to somewhere else. Love the blomads idea!
Ha ha ha ha, that is what I told them Anne – nothing wrong with the coffee…. I drank it. ha ha ha.
