Good morning how are you today? I am great – sitting here sipping on my black coffee. I ditched the milk about a month ago now – went cold turkey -straight into black coffee and I am loving it.
But we are not here to chat about coffee (or my intermittent fasting, I think that needs to be a whole other post) so let’s chat meal plans. The beef situation is getting a little low in my freezer cold room and that is one of the reasons I love doing a meal plan. Even though it may seem that I am almost out of meat I can always scrounge up enough meals for at least another 2 weeks. Mr Chardy really does need to get a killer though.
So what can I dig up this week? Hold the line please caller while I consult page 63 of Miss Chardy’s Guide to Station Cooking. Yes, I really do look at this page every week.
I can confirm that our Friday Fakeaway – Burgers & Fries night last Friday was second to none. Yummo!!! I made thin beef patties and then popped them on a big tray and put cheese slices on top of each patty and sat in the bain marie – this then melted them – they were perfect and ready to go on the burgers. I thoroughly enjoyed my burger but made sure I didn’t gorge myself on fries so I could fit my burger in. We had lovely soft fresh buns (from Coles not from my oven) beef patties & cheese, tomato, pineapple, cooked onion, beetroot, lettuce, BBQ sauce & aioli. I didn’t have pineapple on mine. Gosh they were good, I highly recommend a burger night!
Last night was supposed to be a sausage sizzle but I decided to make it a pizza night instead. 8 pizza’s later and we were good to go. There are lots of leftovers for them to take out mustering today. I did a range of flavours – basic 2 x salami and cheese for the fussy eaters (hello Clancy), 3 x supreme – tomato paste, salami, onion, mushroom, green capsicum, olives, cheese & mozzarella + some bbq sauce, 1 x sausage sanga pizza – tomato sauce, cooked sausages, cooked onion, mustard (actually I used dijonnaise because I didn’t have normal American mustard and it was great), bbq sauce and cheese – so yummy, 1 x ham, cheese & pineapple and I had a play around with a bit of a gourmet pizza: 1 x Gormet – tomato paste, baby spinach leaves, cherry tomatoes (halved), feta, onions, ham, mozzarella and dijonnaise – I can confirm that it was really yummy!!!
Oh if you have been following along with my sourdough adventure I finally made a loaf! The I nurtured the “starter” along for 3 days and then finally made my first loaf on Saturday and it was so yummy! I then replenished what I needed to in the starter, let it sit for another 5 hours and it is now in my fridge ready to keep making more loaves. I used the good old recipe book from my old old bread maker (my she rest in peace) and it was so easy!!! After having a look online at sourdough recipes I am not really sure if mine is authentic as I did use yeast in the starter and also in the recipe – because that’s what it told me to do.
Last week was the first week that Ed and I didn’t manage to get a podcast out – I reckon we have done pretty well to go 15 straight weeks and not miss one. The week just got away, Ed was busy and it just didn’t happen. But don’t worry we have already recorded this week’s podcast so there will be one dropping on Friday. We just love doing the podcast and it is always so good to have a big chat with my friend and share it with everyone – because we are total over-sharers!
I hope you all have a fabulous week. Things have been very quiet here lately. The crew have been mostly out and I think that might be the case again this week.
Happy Monday to you all and happy cooking.
