OMG, you wont’ believe it. I have actually had to do some cattle work the past few days. Ok, so I actually just had to open some gates and move some cattle up at the yards. Ok, so Tom did most of the work, but I had to supervise, right? I did have to get in there and help Tom move them which I actually like doing, believe it or not!
Mr Chardy and the rest of the gang have gone away for a Colt Challenge and won’t return until tomorrow, so basically I am running the show. Well, Tom – my 9 year old going on 39, actually thinks he is running things, and he probably is really. Mr Chardy left him a list of jobs that he obviously didn’t think I was capable of doing, and he was probably right:
1. Feed the Stallion (his pride and joy) morning and night
2. Feed the foal
3. Make sure foals have enough water
4. Feed Dog
5. Move Cattle @ cattle yards
I know – you are wondering why I didn’t go to the Colt Challenge, aren’t you? It was a hard decision, because we all know how much I love horses and all. I really had to think about it. I mean, the 9 hour drive there and back over a 3 day period to watch horses go round and round in stinking hot conditions was super tempting. But in the end I thought that 3 days of peace and quiet on the station was more to my liking. And right I was – It has been such a lovely quiet couple of days.
So just call me Cowgirl Chards if you will.
PS: if you are wondering where Harry was…. don’t worry, he was home watching ABC3 upside down on the lounge. He is a bit like me – an indoor cat.
Thank goodness for ‘Toms’, such excellent mini Managers! Quite frankly I get a bit scared in the yards. I think you made the right decision to stay home! X
Mini Manager that is for sure, sometimes I have to remind him that he is, in fact, not in charge!!!! But he is a great little worker. ha ha ha.
Good on you Tom and Cowgirl Chards! I’m impressed! Love the picture of big and little boy walking together. Heart melt.
So cute isn’t it. I love it too.
Well well look at you the next Sara Henderson! and look at that sexy boots and shorts combo what a statement. But missing the red wranglers I think haha good for you blossom..
I know, the khaki shorts are pretty special aren’t they!!!! ha ha ha. Might give the red wranglers a miss and go with the candy stripes perhaps!!!
Hey what’s is that stretch bloke thinking? Candy stripe wranglers are so much classier hehe
Love your work Chards! Given those options, I’d have chosen the latter too!
Here’s to female farmers doin’ it for themselves!
Oh Amanda, so excited to see your happy face pop up here….cheers!
These pictures are gorgeous!
Thanks Kelly, I was only just reading your blog yesterday!!! Very excited to see you over here at Chardy central!!
Gee Cowgirl Cardy, I will be out of a job soon if you keep this work up!! Haha
Hmmm I doubt it. Can’t see myself shoeing a horse…although I am a fan of new shoes.
Hi miss chardy, just stumbled across your blog via baby mac. I’m looking forward to reading your blog but first things first, where did you get your AMAZING cowgirl boots from? Jess 🙂
Hi Jess, you are too funny, those boots are so old. Probably about 13 years old actually, I bought them out of a bargain bin when I was a Governess – they are Ariat if that is any help. They are on their last legs but do the job of keeping the dust out of my socks. Thanks so much for reading, god love Baby Mac for sharing, she is such a legend, I just LOVE her blog (and her!!). Have you listened to her Over the Back Fence Pod Cast? It is unreal, look it up on iTunes.
Ariats are around $220 new, I bet you got them for $10 didn’t you?! I have been in love with them for a very long time (I even have a pinterest board dedicated to cowgirl boots!) One of these days I will just buy myself a pair and I will wear them with EVERYTHING! I think I was a cowgirl or farmers wife in a previous life. We live in suburban adelaide but both the husb and i dream of moving to the country and living a simple life, id say it’s more of a plan than just a dream. I worry about the isolation though, I guess you get used to it? Yep I’m a bit of a babymac stalker to, she is living my dream! I’m yet to listen to the podcasts, more of a logistics thing as my laptop doesn’t have speakers! Thanks for replying, I look forward to ‘getting to know you’ via reading your blog! Jess 🙂
I managed to get those little babies for 100 bucks in the bargain bin. Sounds like you definitely need to move to the country, you will love it, doesn’t mean you have to be super isolated, look at Baby Mac, she sure is living the dream and only a couple of hours down the highway from Sydney. Now, do you have an iPhone or iPod that you can download the podcasts onto? I listened to it on my iPhone, or even an iPod. Good luck with that dream of moving to the country! Do it.
Hiya!
I have come here through Baby Mac too.
Your world is a universe away from mine! I live on the beach in a country town in SA! I love your pics! I have subscribed to keep up to date with the fun you have!
