Life on an Outback Cattle Station: Roadtrains, Cattle & Tea Cake

June 24, 2015

Yesterday some of our steers went on a little road trip. ย I know – road trips are always so much fun aren’t they! ย Just thought I would share some photos with you. ย I took Joanie & Stu up to the yards to have a look, I do love a good road train and yesterday there were four of them to load. ย You see we breed the cattle here and then the weaners go on a little holiday down to the Channel Country to grow out – down near Boulia in QLD.

When we got back I whipped up a quick cinnamon tea cake for smoko, I had forgotten how good this one was and so easy.

We finished off the day with a delicious roast beef dinner. ย Oh and did I mention that Stu and Joanie tidied up my grocery store… I nearly cried when I saw it, so clean and tidy, I couldn’t believe my eyes. ย I have felt stressed every time I walk in there lately but just haven’t found the time to unpack and tidy up. ย Thanks so much Stu & Joan, I can’t thank you enough. ย Now, where are those cutters so I can go and do some damage to the wiring in their car, surely they don’t need to leave. ย As I said to them yesterday “it isn’t going to get any better than this guys, so you may as well stay” ha ha ha.

I still cannot fathom the size of the operation Chards. FOUR road trains of wearers? Incredible!

And that is not many for around these parts, sometimes we ship off 6 road trains worth, other stations do way more than that. We are small fish in this big ocean up here.

Love a good road train too. Especially when I am not sharing the road with them ;).

And there is nothing like a tidy store to induce a sigh of contentment. Have a lovely day.

Gosh those road trains are just such a sight for this wee gal from NZ, a double truck was as big as it got in our farm. No visitors but lots of work keeping me out of trouble! x

Wow, it’s actions stations in your neck of the woods! I shouldn’t say this but those weaners have sweet faces, oops i said it…..i probably shouldn’t, imagine if i lived on a station – i would probably make the big mistake of naming each of them. Wow i love a good tea cake, could you pretty please share recipe, once you stop socialising & cooking of course haha! How great to have your supermarket organised, it will ensure you find that gravy bucket every time!! Gotta love gravy with yer roast beef!

Gorgeous shots of the landscape! Love the idea of living on a station but I suspect it’s the romance of it that I’m more in love with than the dirt, dust and flies lol
