Magnetic Island Holiday 2019

January 20, 2020

At the end of November 2019 we holidayed on Magnetic Island with our good friends and neighbours – Shell & Clint and their boys Ben & Lachie. It was such a great week & more memories were made with our dear friends.

This holiday to Maggie Island was our third stay on the Island with Shell & Clint and our 4th family holiday together. Finding a family that you get along so well with and are happy to share a holiday house with is truly a rare thing and we feel so blessed to have such great friends. Holidaying with this beautiful family is a true joy and so easy!

Our boys grew up together – Ben & Lach are the same age as Tom and Harry – they have gone through School of the Air together and are now at different boarding schools down south. I love that we can all still get together as if nothing has changed. With Clancy much older this time our holiday was perfect. The boys all got along so well.

Even though we are neighbours we don’t really see much of each other throughout the year now that the big boys are at boarding school. Shell is busy with her business Trek West and time just slips away. Oh and they are also 110km away & 5 gates through the paddocks, so I guess we can’t just pop over for a quick coffee or a cheeky wine.

Mr Chardy and Clint are so great with all of the boys – they keep them very busy all day – fishing, golfing, playing tennis, more fishing, bush walking, more fishing and a little more fishing.

Shell and I were able to kick back quite a bit poolside and read our books. Oh life was good.

This is our second time holidaying in this amazing house at Horseshoe Bay. Holiday house hunting is a sport I take very seriously and I can tell you that you would be hard pressed to find a better house and location than this one – I mean look at that view.

Maggie Island is so quiet and peaceful. The boys walk up to the shop each morning along the water to get us a coffee and themselves a milkshake. They play cricket in the cul-de-sac (it is basically Ramsay Street) and they can just jump in the pool no worries and belt the living daylights out of each other with the pool noodles while we sit up on the top verandah.

The thing that made our holiday super easy was Shelly doing a Woolworths order online and having it delivered to the house – so easy!

Maggie Island – we truly love you and will definitely be back with our favourite holidaying family.

Our last night together was spent in Townsville where we had one last hoorah and went all out at Ribs & Rump. As Mr Chardy says “the meal isn’t over until you hate yourself” and we definitely hated ourselves after we were done here. We left no food unturned… cocktails, entree, main and then topped it off with dessert (in case we didn’t quite hate ourselves enough). Mr Chardy and Clint then topped the topper off with a Toblerone Cocktail. What a fun night we all had together.

It was then up at 4am the next morning to drive ALL THE WAY HOME… dear lord… what a mammoth effort that was – 17 hours. To put it in perspective we could have driven to Camooweal and then flown Sydney to Dallas in that time – give me a long haul flight any day over 17 hours in a car.

It was all worth it though. Such a fun holiday.

Now in case that wasn’t enough I have over committed on holidays at the end of last year. So after Maggie we went home for a couple of weeks and then packed up again and headed to Noosa for Christmas with my family. We got to have my Birthday and Christmas with family and cousins, but that is a whole other blog post isn’t it.

It is snowing and slushy on the Kansas plains in the middle of U S as I enjoy reading about your adventures in the sun. My friends tease me about following an Australian family…that I am stalking! But I delight in learning about a different world but with the same values, goals and loves!

Wichita—-old cattle town, then aircraft, now medical and educational hub for area between Kansas City and Denver. Don’t know that any of my friends read your blog but several ask about you during the wild fires! One summer I cooked for a custom hay crew —20-30 young men. Identify a bit with some of your meal preparation tales!
