Picnic

April 13, 2014

We went on a family picnic to the waterhole yesterday.  The house looked like the Lego Plane had crash landed in our lounge room so it was lovely to leave it all behind for a few hours and forget about the mess. The weather has finally cooled down, the breeze has picked up and it was perfect weather to leave the confines of my air-conditioned house.

We bounced through the rough paddocks for about 20 minutes.  My husband assures me we were on a “road” however I beg to differ.  The boys packed up a bag of snags, sauce, bread and of course a few soft drinks.  The waterhole was  full of gorgeous lilies, it was stunning.  Harry is quite the charmer so the first thing he did was pick me a flower.  So thoughtful.  He then continued to pick more and more, before long he was knee high in the water pulling whole Lily pads up.

While Harry picked flowers the other boys collected twigs to start a fire, before long the snags were sizzling on the hotplate.  Of course the little fire bugs were there with big sticks “stoking” the fire and I was in the background going psycho telling them not to fall in the fire.  I really need to calm down.

The water got the better of Tom and Clancy.  Boots were removed and they too were knee high in the water, mud and rocks.  And then me, I even ditched my boots in an attempt to pick some fresh flowers for the dining table, the lengths we have to go to out here for fresh flowers is ridiculous.  My precious little feet are by no means used to the rocks and dirt, it was tough going.  I am sure my body was in shock – exposed to fresh air and mud.

Time to head home.  We found a temporary vase for the lilies.  They suffered a little on trip home and started to droop.  Once home I popped them into a vase.  Certainly not an arrangement you would find in a Country Style magazine, but they are still fresh flowers.  Out here they are all I have.

What are you doing for the School Holidays?

Are you experiencing the holiday fog of mess, like me?  It makes me dizzy, everywhere I look there is mess.

Please motivate me – suggestions please: how do I stay on top of things….. toddler + children on school holidays = nightmare.

PS: It was sheer coincidence that 3 of us were wearing the same shirts.  Don’t worry we are not the Von Trapp family. Although, if we were we would be wearing work shirts made out of curtains.
