Trek West & Joys Fitness Hub Big Loop 2019

July 4, 2019

Now, don’t fall off your chairs my friends but as promised I am back on a Thursday to try for this thing called consistency – now it is only day two (and I have been trying it for the past 4 years but we won’t even go there)… I have turned up so I think we will just celebrate the small wins.

A couple of weeks ago I headed over to help one of my favourite people with her big loop hike. That person is my neighbour and beautiful friend – Shelly (or Mrs Savvy B as you may know her).

I am sure you know what I am talking about but if you are new around these parts – well firstly WELCOME – you may want to read this story all about Shell’s business that she runs from her NW Queensland cattle station – Trek West Hiking.

Shell runs 8 hikes a year, all of them are based up at their stock camp (which is the fanciest stock camp you ever will see).

Once a year she does a Big Loop Hike with Joys Fitness Hub – you can only come along if you are a member of the Hub and spaces are limited to 8. This is the third Big Loop I have helped with and I just love it. You meet the most amazing women – and we all know how much I love to meet new people.

My job is to help Tilly. We don’t hike – we do the heavy lifting (well lets get real – Tilly does the heavy lifting and I fluff around laughing until we nearly pee our pants).

Oh we have such fun. The Big Loop involves 4 nights moving from camp to camp – sleeping in individual pop up tents – and the last night at the beautiful Stockcamp glamping in one of the bell tents. It is our job to set up camp each afternoon and then pack up each morning.

Each hiker is assigned their own tent and sleeping mat – it is their job to pop it up and pack it down themselves. Once we pack up each morning we head off in the two utes (Tilly tows the camp kitchen).

We stop ahead of the hikers and prepare a delicious lunch and then we are on our way again bound for our next campsite.

It really is such fun. The countryside and landscape is just so stunning and peaceful. Out there with no phone service or internet – totally off the grid and miles from anywhere. So good for the soul.

Like I said you meet the most amazing women on this trip and by night 3 you are all basically like family. It really is a special environment. This group was no exception and I truly believe in saying yes to opportunities that come your way. All of these women were bush ladies… from Middlemount, Charleville, Yeoval, Aramac, Longreach & Blackall.

Shelly has done such an amazing job over the past couple of years setting up Trek West and she is one of the hardest working women you will ever meet. Tilly & Shell work tirelessly to ensure all the hikers are well cared for. It isn’t a job for them it is their way of life and they love sharing stories and history of the land.

I am so thankful that Shell and Tilly trust me enough to ask me along to help with the Big Loop and I can’t recommend Trek West Tailored Hiking Tours enough.
